Standards for fireproof door materials

Materials used in fire doors are those that are resistant to fire under high temperatures, thereby effectively preventing the spread of the fire area.

Each type of fire door has its own requirements in the use of specific fireproof materials:

  • Windows, doors, as well as fire partitions in rooms, need to be made of fireproof materials with a fire-resistance time of over 45 minutes.
  • Windows, doors, fire partitions going up to the roof or to the basement must be made of fireproof door standard materials and can withstand fire for about 40 minutes.
  • For apartment buildings, high-rise buildings, doors of technical rooms, doors of emergency stairs, and doors of basement rooms must also be made of fireproof materials. Moreover, it is necessary to ensure that there is an automatic closing mechanism and can withstand fire for about 45 minutes.

Dimensions, a standard thickness of fire doors

  • Standard sizes of fire doors have a width of 800 – 1200mm and a height of 1800 – 3000mm.
  • Fire doors must have thick wing steel with the thickness: 0.8mm; 1.0mm; 1.2mm; 1.5mm or 2.0mm.
  • The thickness of the steel fire door must meet in the range of 40 – 50mm.

Other standards

  • Standard glass panes for fire doors must use fireproof tempered glass and have a good heat-resistant steel mesh. Normally, this glass pane will have a minimum size of 200 x 400mm.
  • The core of the fireproof door must have insulation made from Rockwool material (fireproof cotton) or made from honeycomb paper and reinforced steel bones.
  • Use powder coating, wood grain paint, or oil paint to paint a layer on the door to increase fire resistance.
  • The stainless steel hinge of the door needs to use the design of clamps, posts, and leaves made of stainless steel sill.
  • Accessories of fireproof doors are indispensable hydraulic pushers and lever locks.
  • Finally, fire doors need to have a rubber gasket system around them to prevent smoke from entering.

Currently, NOVODOOR is using fire door standards and regulations including QCVN 16:2014/BXD; QCVN 06:2020/BXD; TCVN 9383:2012; TCVN 6160:1996.
